:: SALTA ::
Salta is a provincial capital in the mountainous northwest of Argentina. It was founded in 1582 and is known for its Spanish colonial architecture and its Andean heritage. The city centers on the Plaza 9 de Julio, elegant and surrounded by cafes, around which is located the Salta Cathedral and El Cabildo, an 18th century town hall transformed into a museum. Nearby, there is the High Mountain Archeology Museum (MAAM), which houses Inca artifacts and mummies.
